Abstract

1340934 Regulating I C engine fuel injection ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 23 April 1971 [24 April 1970] 10986/71 Heading F1B [Also in Division F2] A fuel metering valve 14 for controlling fuel flow to intake pipe or manifold injectors is actuated by an air flow measuring element 4 in series with a throttle valve 7 in the intake pipe 3, 5, 6. A by-pass 26 around the element 4 has a valve 28, Fig 1, or 37, Fig. 5, which controls the flow cross-section of the by-pass as a function of engine operation. The valve 28 is angularly adjustable with the valve 7 and has a profiled edge 29, Fig.2 (not shown), which provides for increasing covering of the opening 27 with increasing throttle valve opening to thereby decrease the air flow by-passing the element 4 and increase the fuel-air ratio of the mixture supplied to the engine. The valve 37 is angularly adjustable with the valve 7 and movable along the valve shaft by a temperature sensor 40, subject to the flow of engine coolant through a chamber 44, to vary the alignment of triangular openings 41 and 42 in the valve 37 and the bypass 26. The valve 37 may be movable along the shaft as a function of engine temperature and the pressure downstream of the valve 7 or hydraulically as a function of the engine speed, load and temperature. A connection 46, 48 from the valve chamber 43 to the induction pipe 6 downstream of the valve 7 is controlled by a piston 49 or a diaphragm to provide a by-pass around the valve 7 which is closed at overrunning but open at idling. The flow cross-section of the bypass 26 may be controlled by the profiled outer side (31) Fig. 3 and 4 (not shown), of a valve (28) angularly adjustable with the valve 7 and variably spaced from a rectangular opening (32) in the by-pass. The by-pass is connected upstream of the opening (32) to the valve chamber (33) by a passage (34) with an idling air adjustment screw (35).
