Abstract

1482680 Regulating diesel engines; heating charge DAIMLER-BENZ AG 4 Dec 1974 [8 Dec 1973] 52483/74 Heading F1B [Also in Division G3] A throttle valve 7 and a diverter valve 11 regulating the volume of the intake air flowing through an exhaust gas heat exchanger 6 , 9 are operated conjointly so that the throttling provided by the valve 7 and temerature of the air entering the engine 1 are decreased with increasing engine load. In the embodiment shown the positions of the valve 7 and the fuel injection pump control rod 19 are determined by an accelerator pedal 15 and the pressure acting on the piston in the adjustable link 20 between the valves 7 and 11 is determined by a thermostat 22 and a connection 30 to the pedal. The thermostat positions a baffle 25 and the connection 30 an adjustable nozzle 24 such that the spacing between the baffle and the nozzle determines the proportion of the pressure of a constant pressure air supply which acts on the link piston. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), air pressures dependent upon the positions of a fuel injection pump control rod (119), positioned in accordance with engine speed as set by an accelerator pedal (115), and an air intake temperature thermostat (122), control the operation of spool valves (43 and 56) which connect motor cylinders (45 and 53) either to a source of compressed air or vent the cylinders. The pistons (46 and 55) of the motor cylinders are connected respectively to the air intake throttle valve (107) and the diverter valve (111).
