Abstract

975,780. Hydraulic clutch control. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. May 17, 1963 [May 25, 1962], No. 19813/63. Headings F2C and F2L. [Also in Division F1] A cooling air blower 5 for an internal-combustion engine is driven through a hydraulic clutch 6 controlled by a temperature responsive device 30 and by means 24 dependent upon the position of the accelerator 11 and means are provided which suppress the effect of brief variations of position of the accelerator 11 on the clutch. The clutch 6 is a variable slip clutch, the filling of which is controlled by a means 14 including the temperature and accelerator responsive devices. The temperature responsive device 30 controls a throttle valve 18 in the supply pipe 7, 19, 7<SP>1</SP>, to the coupling 6 and the accelerator 11 is connected to a piston 23 which acts upon a valve 17, controlling the pressure drop across valve 18, through a spring 21. The valve 17 is loaded in space 25 by the pressure upstream of valve 18 by a pipe 26 with a throttling restriction 27 which damps movement of the valve 17 so that it does not respond to brief movements of the piston 23. If the pedal 11, controlling an injection pump 9, is depressed normally, the valve 17 follows piston 23 with a time lag to open passage 7<SP>1</SP> and increase the coupling filling to increase blower speed. The temperature responsive means 30 responds to the temperature of the heated air downstream of the cylinders and upon increase of temperature the valve 18 is moved to the left to increase the fluid supply and hence the blower speed.
