Abstract

568,727. Two-stroke injection engines. SOC. ANON. A. SAURER. Feb. 26, 1943, No. 3202. Convention date, March 10, 1942. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi)] In a two-stroke spark-ignited light oil injection engine having piston - controlled scavenging ports 4 supplied from a blower 8, and supplementary charging ports 6 controlled by a sleeve valve 7 and supplied from a blower 14 when working under heavy load, the delivery pipe 19 of the blower is shut off when the load is small and the ports 6 are connected to the inlet 13 of the blower 14 by opening a valve 21 so that air is drawn out of the engine cylinder after the scavenging period. As shown, the engine has opposed pistons 2, 3 and exhaust ports 5 controlled by the piston 3. The blower 8 communicates with the scavenging-air reservoir 10 around the ports 4 and by means of a pipe 11 and a valve 12 with the inlet 13 of the blower 14. Under heavy load, the valve 12 and valve 22 in the pipe 19 are open. When the load diminishes, the valves 12, 22 are gradually closed and valves 23, 24 gradually opened to the atmosphere, so that the pressure in the pipe 13 falls to atmospheric. Afterwards, the valve 21 is progressively opened and the valve 23 closed, so that the blower 14 draws air from the cylinder ports 6 and discharges to the atmosphere. During the closing of the valve 12, a throttle valve 16 in the inlet to the blower 8 is partly closed.
