Abstract
529,619. Compound engines ; valves. HEYLANDT, C. W. P. June 5, 1939, No. 16440. Convention date, June 23, 1938. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi)] A rotary valve 5 transverse to the cylinder heads controls the supply of combustible mixture by oblique passages 51 and ports 41, 41a, to the two high-pressure cylinders 1, 2, transfer from the latter to the low-pressure cylinder 3 by passages 51a, 52a, and exhaust from the lowpressure cylinder by passage 53 and ports 43, 43a. The valve rotates at half engine-speed. A four-stroke cycle is carried out in the cylinders 1, 2, and a two-stroke cycle in cylinder 3.
