Abstract

309,649. Tuckfield, P. Jan. 25, 1928. Four-stroke-cycle engines.-In engines having the amount of supercharge regulated by a valve in the transfer passage, the valve comprises a loose plate or disc 1, or a hinged flap valve, controlling at one side a series of holes 7a leading to the cylinder port 4, and at the other side a smaller port 9<a> leading to the transfer pipe 2. The valve is made of such size as never to cover all the holes 7<a>, so that air from the transfer pipe passes into the cylinder when the port 4 is uncovered by the piston. When, however, the cylinder pressure exceeds that in the transfer pipe, the valve closes the hole 9<a> so as to stop further supercharge.
