Abstract
553,878. Pressure-relief valves. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. Dec. 5, 1941, No. 15684. Convention date, Dec. 17, 1940. [Class 135] A relief valve is operated by pressure drop in a piping so as to be open before the arrival of the reflex higher pressure wave. The valve 6, Fig. 1, is normally closed by the pressure in the piping 2 led through a passage 14 provided with a throttle 15, to act on a piston 5. When the pressure drops, the consequent fall of pressure in a cylinder 10, connected to the pipe 2 through a pipe 11 throttled at 12, allows a spring 16 to open a valve 9, so that the space 13 is .connected to a drain pipe 3, and the valve 6 opens. In a modification shown in Fig. 2, the fall of pressure allows the spring 16 to move a valve 18 to set the space 13 into communication with the drain through a port 20 and pipe 19.
