Abstract

1,244,226. Valves. M. TUROLLA. 3 Jan., 1969 [4 Jan., 1968], No. 502/69. Heading F2V. The main closure member of a pilot actuated pressure relief valve comprises a balanced differential piston 10 with a throttle passage 17, 18 communicating the inlet pressure in chamber 19 to chamber 2 to assist spring 11 in holding piston 10 on seat 15. When the pressure in chamber 2 rises sufficiently to open needle valve 6 chamber 2 exhausts through bores 24, 124, and the pressure in chamber 19 lifts piston 10 to interconnect inlet M1 with outlet S1. Piston 10 carries a dashpot piston 13 which damps the action of the valve.
