Abstract

248,843. Dewrance, Sir J. Dec. 12, 1924. Lift valves; valves fitted with independently actuated supplementary valves. - A hand - actuated steam stop valve of large size is fitted on the inlet side A with a balancing piston E arranged to work freely in a cylinder open to a drain outlet C. In order to open the main valve G the drain outlet stop valve D is first opened; this discharges the water of condensation and relieves the pressure under the piston E thereby allowing the valve to come to balance as regards inlet pressure, whereupon the valve can be readily lifted by its screw or other handactuating means. A drain opening through the piston may be used if it is desired to fit the piston closely to its cylinder.
