Abstract
239,936. Porter, H. G. June 19, 1924. Pressure-regulating valves.-A pressure-regulating valve of the kind comprising a lift main valve actuated by fluid pressure acting on a piston under the control of an auxiliary valve consisting of a pair of pistons on a common rod arranged so that the actuating fluid always passes between the pistons is adapted to be actuated solely by the outlet pressure acting against an adjustable spring load. In the form shown in the Figure the main valve 5 co-operates with a seat 4 and is directly connected to the actuating piston 6. The control valve pistons 8 work in a cylindrical casing provided with a port 9 connecting the space between the pistons with the space above the main piston, with a port 10 leading to the inlet and with ports 11, 12 leading to the outlet side of the main valve. In the event of the outlet pressure rising above the desired value, the pressure admitted through the port 12 raises the pistons against the action of the spring 13 and admits inlet pressure above the main piston at the same time closing the passage to the outlet side. In a modification inlet pressure is admitted to open the valve. A pipe 16 connects the space above the pistons to atmosphere. According to the Provisional Specification this pipe may communicate with the exhaust pressure.
