Abstract

524,564. Hydraulic presses ; valves. TOWLER, J. M. and TOWLER, F. H. Jan. 21, 1939, No. 2101. [Classes 69 (ii) and 135] A piston type control valve for hydraulic presses is constructed to prevent a sudden surge of pressure in the exhaust mains when the valve is opened to exhaust. To this end when the valve is moved to the exhaust position the liquid can pass only through a throttled release and further movement is resisted by means actuated by pressure in the cylinder and continues until the pressure has fallen to a level at which the valve may be opened fully. As applied to a piston valve of the kind described in Specification 517,467, the movement of the valve piston 2 to the left to connect the pressure chamber to exhaust is restricted by a small ram to which enters a cylinder 8 connected to the cylinder of the press via a pipe 9 and chamber 5.
