Abstract

565,259. Hydraulic presses. MUIR, W. P. June 25, 1943, No. 10316. [Class 69 (ii)] When the working pressure in the cylinder 7 of a hydraulic press reaches a predetermined maximum value, all excess pressure fluid is by-passed through a valve 40, which opens at the above value, and passes along a line 44 to another valve 45 opening at a lower pressure whence it passes through lines 48 and 25 to the sump 26. The pressure in line 44 is thus main tained at the above lower value and may be utilized to operate the main valve 12 controlling the working and return movements of the press. In the form shown it does this by tripping a toggle 38 and so allowing the valve piston 15 to move to the right under the action of a spring 35 and an adjustable choke 62 gives a time delay before tripping so permitting the press to dwell on the work for a desired period. The pressure in line 44 may also operate through a line 70 to adjust the stroke of the pump 10 thus reducing the volume of pump discharge. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown) the valve 12 is operated by a pneumatic relay controlled by the pressure in line 44 and also by hand-operated push valves.
