Abstract

978,470. Hydraulic intensifiers. CHARLES S. MADAN & CO. Ltd. Aug. 26, 1963 [May 30, 1962], No. 20716/62. Heading F1P. An hydro-pneumatic pressure intensifier comprises a large piston 9 slidable in a cylinder I and adapted to be operated by air to move a plunger 7 secured thereto to displace, via the medium of a hydraulic fluid in a chamber 15, 16, 17, a work ram 11 hollowed to accommodate the plunger 7 for at least the greater part of its stroke. The hydraulic fluid is charged to the chamber 15, 16, 17 through a side port 20 closed by a screw plug 19. In an alternative arrangement (not shown) an initial rapid movement of the work ram 11 is achieved by connecting the chamber 16 to a large pressurized reservoir provided with an automatic valve which cuts off the supply to allow the stroke to be completed at high pressure by applying air to the cylinder 1. A coil spring 13 is provided for returning the ram 11.
