Abstract

947,516. Hydraulic pit props. GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE STERKRADE A.G. Feb. 19, 1960 [Feb. 21, 1959], No. 5994/60. Heading EIE. An hydraulic pit prop 1, 2 incorporates an auxiliary piston 4 pressurized by an accumulator 21 which supplies pressure for retraction purposes and is charged during extension of said prop. The piston 4 is fixed to the base 2 of the prop and slides in a cylinder 6 which is fixed to the member I thereof and communicates with the accumulator through parts 22. The accumulator is made of spring steel, plastic or rubber and is mounted in a steel housing 23. The member 1 is elevated by a pump 7 which feeds liquid from the reservoir 8 through a conduit 9 and valves 10, 11 to a chamber 12, the underside of the member 1 being initially fed with liquid through a valve 14 and then fed with liquid through a valve 16 in the piston 4. A release valve 18 permits escape of liquid from the chambers 12, 15 to the reservoir 8 when the prop is to be released.
