Abstract
754,108. Hydraulic pit props. MINING ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. June 9, 1953 [June 16, 1952 ; Aug. 12, 1952], Nos. 15140/52 and 20288/52. Class 20(2). In an hydraulic telescopic pit prop the main cylinder 1 in which operates a hollow ram 2 constituting a fluid reservoir and having a. relief valve 7, has a piston 9 enclosing a space 10 containing compressed air and connected to the main cylinder through holes 13 or in the modification of Fig. 2 a bag 30 containing compressed air in a chamber 31 can be connected to the main cylinder through a valve 24. Air passes through the holes 13, Fig. 1, as the roof pressure on the prop increases or in Fig. 2 through the valve 24 to charge the chamber 31. Sudden increases of load on the prop are absorbed by the . piston 10 or the air bag 30. The prop of Fig. 1 is set by a hand pump 3 and released. on manual operating by means 14, 15, the valve 7. The prop of Fig. 2 is set by operation of the valve 24 to supply fluid from the chamber 31 to the piston 26 which puts pressure on the fluid in the reservoir by means of a piston 28 to which it is connected by a hollow rod 27 and fluid is forced through by means of an aperture 29 through the rod to the cylinder 25 and a port in the valve 24 to the main cylinder. The chamber 31 may also be connected directly to the main cylinder to pre-load the prop. A valve 34 sensitive to the difference in pressures in the main cylinder and the chamber 31 maintains the pressure in the cylinder from the chamber. Specification 754,107 is referred to.
