Abstract

743,199. Hydraulic pit props. DOWTY HYDRAULIC UNITS, Ltd. Dec. 11, 1953 [Dec. 11, 1952], No. 3.1428/52. Class 20(2). A hydraulic telescopic pit prop comprises tubes 11, 15 closed at the outer ends and having a sealing gland 17 so as to form a pressure chamber C, a reservoir 26 on the top of the inner tube 11 which also carries a valve block 14 having a manually operated pump 32 for setting the prop and a pressure relief valve which may be operated manually to release the prop. The inner tube 11 is of considerably less diameter than the outer tube 15 which carries it in bushes 20, 21 so that the outer tube may be dented without interfering with the working of the inner tube.
