866,239. Hydraulic pit props. HOESCHWESLFALENHUTTE A. G. June 5, 1957 [June 21, 1956], No. 17922/57. Class 20(2) The extension and collapse of an hydraulic telescopic pit prop is controlled by a valve 2 in the piston head 18 controlled by liquid under pressure in ducts 1, 9. Differential pressure on the head 4 and in an annular space 3 of the valve 2, produced when liquid is supplied to the pipe 1 raises the valve against a spring 5 and connects the duct 1 by passages 2a, 3, 6 the prop pressure chamber 7 to extend the prop. Pressure in the chamber 7 acts on the surface 35 of the valve 2 to reclose it. Fluid from the chamber 13 at the other side of the piston head flows through passages 12, 34 and out through the duct 9. The prop is collapsed by supplying liquid to the duct 9 which acts on the surface 10 of the valve 2 which is raised to connect the chamber 7 again to the duct 1 which is connected to exhaust, liquid also flows by the passage 12 to the space 13 to raise the piston. Two spring safety slide valves 15, 16 are provided in the piston head 18 both adapted to connect the chamber 7 to the chamber 13 at a selected pressure. In the valve 16 the pressure fluid passes through an axial passage in the valve to act on a surface 30 at the lower end of the valve.
