Abstract

847,386. Hydraulic pit props. NOE, O. May 16, 1957 [May 30, 1956], No. 15551/57. Class 20(2) An hydraulic telescopic pit prop comprising a reservoir 2, 21 in the inner prop member 1, is set by a pump separate from the prop which draws liquid from the prop reservoir 2, 21 by a pipe 7 and forces it by a pipe 8 into the prop pressure chamber 3<SP>1</SP>. The pipes 7, 8 are connected to an adapter having a central plunger 39 Fig. 4, adapted to be forced into a passage 40 in the prop against a spring plunger 83, a sleeve 53 seating against the end of the passage 40 and being forced back into the adapter against spring pressure until projections 61 on the outer casing 54 can be engaged with catches 62 on the prop by turning the casing about its axis. The pipe 7 is connected by grooves 43 in the plug 39 to a pipe 46 leading to the prop reservoir and pipe 8 is connected through a central passage 44 in the plunger 39 to a pipe 10, Fig. 1 connected to the prop pressure chambers 3<SP>1</SP>. When the adapter is removed and the sleeve 53 is returned by spring pressure, passages 42, 57, 58, 56 in the plunger 39 and sleeve and passage 49 in the casing 54 connect pipes 7, 8 together so that fluid from the pump circulates idly. The prop is released by manual operation of the automatic relief valve 12. The pump and adaptor are used to operate a jack for advancing a frame comprising a root bar and props Fig. 6 (not shown).
