715,018. Reciprocating pumps; pipe joints; pipe supports. LAKE & ELLIOTT, Ltd., GILBERT, G., and NEWMAN, J. Nov. 23, 1951 [Nov. 23, 1950], No. 28666/50. Classes 99 (1), 99 (2) and 102 (1). [Also in Groups X and XXX] A hydraulic unit for actuating a pit prop (see Group.X) comprises a pump A bolted by a flange 11 in a reservoir B and connected by a flexible hose 3 to the pit prop D. The pump comprises a manually operable rocker arm 15 adapted to operate two plungers 21 to which it is connected by links 20, or slots in the plungers or by springs pressing the plungers against the rocker arms. Inlet valves 26 communicate with the reservoir and a delivery valve 31 with the hose 3. The hose 3 is connected to the pit prop by a coupling comprising a grip 42 having a nose 44, Fig. 12, adapted to seat on a rubber seat 54 in an extension 47 of the pit prop. The nose 44 and extension, when separate are closed by valves 43, 46 respectively. These valves engage and open one another when connection is made. A cam 60 on the grip 42 engages a cam 56 on the pit prop and assists the making of the connection which is finally locked by a pin passing through holes 67, 61.
