456,232. Actuating liquid pumps and gas compressors. JOHNSON, G. W., 47, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.; Frankfort - on - Main, Germany) July 24, 1935, No. 21074. [Classes 8 (i) and 102 (i)] [See also Group XXIX] A pump for liquids or gases comprises two cylinders a, a<1> connected to valve boxes b, b<1> and supplied with liquid or gas under pressure by pipe c, and delivering to pipe e. Each piston d, d<1> is actuated by pistons g, g<1> supplied with pressure liquid through pipe i, the supply being controlled by an auxiliary control valve o actuated by projections w, w<1> and actuating pistons n, n<1> actuating the main control valves k, k<1>. Non-return valves v, vl are fitted in the connections between the auxiliary control valve o, and the pistons n, n<1> and are actuated by extensions on the pistons n, n<1>. This arrangement results in the feature that one piston g or g<1> does not commence a downward stroke until after the other piston has commenced its upward stroke so that a uniform pump delivery is obtained. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, the above feature is obtained by fitting throttle valves D<1> ... D<4>, and non-return valves R<1> ... R<4> in the connections between the auxiliary control valve o and the pistons n, n<1>. The valves v, v<1> are connected to pistons and the exhaust of the spaces on either side of the pistons n, n<1> takes place through the throttle valves D<1> ... D4 and pressures exerted on the pistons of the valves V, V<1> prevent them from opening until the correct time.
