822,162. Hydraulic pit props. BOCHUMER GESELLSCHAFT FUR GRUBENAUSBAU UND TECHNIK. May 4, 1956 [May 6, 1955], No. 30134/57. Divided out of 822,161. Class 20(2) [Also in Group XXIX] A hydraulic pit prop is provided with a spring-loaded valve 27, Fig. 5, of small flow cross-section opening in the direction of liquid pressure and operable either by the liquid pressure to relieve excess pressure in the prop or manually through a longitudinally displaceable rod 29, 30 to initially release the pressure when the prop is to be withdrawn, the valve 27 being interconnected, with axial play, by the rod 29, 30, with a spring-loaded main release valve 24 which opens in the direction opposite to the pressure in the prop, and can be manually opened by means of the rod 29, 30 after the valve 27 hasfirst been opened to initially release the pressure. The coupling between the rod 29, 30 and the valve 24, which comprises a piston 31 on the rod 30 guided in a closed chamber 32 in the valve 24, permits the valve 24 to open, independently of the valve 27, under the influence of liquid pressure in a liquid supply conduit 35, Fig. 2, adapted to be connected to the valve casing 22 when the prop is to be set, the valve 24 in this case acting as a non-return valve for the liquid being pumped into the prop.
