Class 20(2) [Also in Group XXIX] A telescopic hydraulic pit prop has two relief valves 9, 16 mounted on the head 4 of the inner prop part. A ball valve 16 controlling a small passage 15 yields under a small overload, while a spring-pressed valve 9 which controls a large passage 7 yields under a greater overload. The stem of the valve 9 carries a piston 10 which is balanced by pressure from the reservoir 2 against that from the pressure chamber of the outer prop part through a tube 3. A rotary cam member 21 is provided to open the valve 9 which then serves as a release valve. In a modification, the ball valve 6 is mounted within the valve 9. Specification 847,386 is referred to.
