Abstract

1,175,117. Work supports. W.D.S. TOOLING AIDS Ltd. 9 Oct., 1968 [19 Dec., 1967], No. 67543/67. Heading B3B. An adjustable work support 1 comprises a plunger-type jack 4 slidably mounted in the bore of a body 3 adapted to be secured on a work-table, a spring 5 acting upwardly on the jack 4, the jack having a recess 11 tapering towards its upper end to form a wedge face 12, and a piston 16 with a return spring 18 carried in a cylinder 14, 15 projecting laterally from the body 3, fluid pressure applied to the piston 16 serving to urge a nose portion 19 thereof against the wedge face 12 to lock the plunger in adjusted position. At least one such adjustable work support may be employed together with a set of three fixed supports to mount a workpiece 8 and where more than one is used they may be locked simultaneously by use of a common fluid pressure supply and control valve.
