Abstract

1279460 Telescopic rams CARLO PESCI SPA 23 Dec 1969 [28 Dec 1968] 62692/69 Heading F1P A double or single-acting telescope ram is extended or retracted by supplying fluid-pressure to one side of pistons 5, 9, 12 while maintaining a fluid back pressure on the other side of the pistons, whereby the associated cylinders 3, 6 and rod 10 are displaced in a predetermined order depending on the effective piston areas. In the double-acting embodiment described the areas are such that the largest piston 5 extends first followed by pistons 9 and 12. Extension occurs when fluid is supplied to a port 301 in an outer cylinder 1, the extension being resisted by the back pressure developed in communicating annular chambers A, A1, A2. These chambers A, A1, A2 communicate through parts 403, 503, 206, 306 and annular passages 303, 106 in the cylinders 3, 6. The back pressure developed during the extension stroke is determined by an adjustable exhaust valve 14 and during the refraction stroke by an adjustable valve 16. A circuit (not shown) for controlling the ram is described.
