711,704. Hydraulic accumulators. BRITISH MESSIER, Ltd. April 2, 1952 [April 20, 1951], No. 9313/51. Class 69 (2) In a hydraulic accumulator comprising a thick-walled gas chamber having therein a comparatively thinwalled cylinder 15 which contains the hydraulic fluid, communicates at one end with the gas chamber and houses a separator piston 19 to separate the hydraulic fluid from the gas, the hydraulic fluid is supplied to the cylinder through a valve 24 which is normally held open by a spring 25 but closes automatically if excessive pressure occurs in the hydraulic supply line. The valve stem 26 is connected to the separator piston 19 by a lost motion connection 27 so that after the piston has moved a predetermined distance into the cylinder the valve 24 is closed.
