Abstract
822,876. Hydraulic brakes. COATALEN, L. March 18, 1958, No. 8682/58. Class 103 (1). A liquid-pressure master cylinder of the type wherein a chamber 2 of the master cylinder in which a piston of larger diameter operates is in communication with the system in which the liquid pressure is utilized, and a piston of smaller diameter, rigid with the piston of larger diameter operates in a smaller diameter extension 3 of the said chamber, and is acted on by the operating member, the space 39 between the two pistons communicating respectively with a fluid reservoir through an aperture controlled by a non-return valve 21, and with the master cylinder chamber 2 through an orifice 30 formed in the layer piston and controlled by a second non-return valve 32, such valve being calibrated to open when a predetermined pressure is reached in the master cylinder chamber, so as to connect the chamber and space together. The first-mentioned non-return valve 21 is adapted to open automatically when the pressure in the space falls below that in the reservoir 13 and is mechanically opened by the larger piston when in its rest position.
