Abstract

841,781. Fluid pressure brakes. RECHERCHES ETUDES PRODUCTION R.E.P. Nov. 4, 1957 [Nov. 5, 1956], No. 34384/57. Class 103 (1). An hydraulic pressure transmitter for hydraulic braking systems, having an auxiliary source of hydraulic pressure comprises a body 1 having coaxial bores 2, 3, the bore 2 containing a piston 15 on a rod 14 and connected to a controller 18, the smaller bore 3 communicating with receiving apparatus through a port 13 and receiving a part 34 of rod 14, and a fluid pressure regulating valve 33 operated by the rod part 34 to regulate the supply to bore 3 of auxiliary fluid from connection 11, a rod part 19 entering bore 3 in a fluid-tight manner when the rod opens valve 33. High pressure fluid in connection 11 forces a shuttle 25 to close a port 27 and open port 26 to supply fluid past grooves 30 to chamber 23 and via a pipe, not shown, to a chamber 22. When piston 15 is moved in the direction F on braking, a ball 35 rides up cam 39 to raise ball valve 33 to supply fluid from chamber 22 to chamber 6 via ports 37, 38 in the piston rod. When pressure in chamber 6, corresponding to brake cylinder pressure, exceeds pedal pressure on piston 15, the piston and rod 14 are moved to the right, firstly to close valve 33 and then to move part 19 from bore 3 to allow fluid to pass from bore 3 to bore 2 and to a reservoir via port 21 and connection 5. The slope of cam 39 determines the progressiveness of braking. Should the auxiliary source fail, then spring 25 returns shuttle 25 to close port 26 and open port 27 so that the transmitter acts as a master cylinder, fluid being forced from chamber 4 via passage 28, port 27, chambers 23, 22 and valve 33 to chamber 6.
