Abstract

755,187. Extrusion presses. SCHLOEMANN AKT.-GES. Oct. 6, 1954 [Nov. 17. 1953], No. 28766/54. Class 87(2) A closure member 7, which is applied to the nozzle 2 of an extrusion cylinder 1 whilst material (e.g. carbon electrode material) is being compressed in the cylinder by a reciprocating plunger 3, is held against the nozzle, as shown, by hydraulic action. Thus, hydraulic pressure passes from pressure accumulator 12 through pipe 11 and non-return valve 10 to a space 9 in a cylinder 4 where it acts on a piston 8 secured to the closure member 7. When the nozzle is to be opened (after the material has been compressed by the plunger) the valve 10 is withdrawn by turning a spindle 15, whereupon the high pressure that has been developed in space 9 by the compression of the material escapes into the accumulator 12. and simultaneously the member 7 detaches itself from the nozzle. Then the cylinder 4, with the whole of the closure mechanism, may be detached from the nozzle by releasing bayonet joints 5, 6. The closure member 7 is applied to the nozzle by means of screwed spindle 19 and handle 20. The upper part 12a of the accumulator is filled with air which may be replenished through a valve 13.
