Abstract
310,691. Guest & Chrimes, Ltd., and Tradewell, A. June 1, 1928. Valves controlled by pilot or relay valve. - A valve device adapted to close automatically in the event of a fall of pressure in the conduit has a wedge-shaped sluice-valve 2 actuated by a doubleacting piston 4 controlled by a piston auxiliary valve 11 directly actuated by the conduit pressure. The auxiliary valve which is loaded by weights 29 is formed with a circumferential groove 16 and with an axial passage 21 open at the top and leading into a transverse passage 22 at the bottom. Ports 12 and 13 are connected by pipes 14 and 15 to the cylinder 5 above and below the piston respectively, port 17 is connected to the upstream side of the main valve through a pipe 19 controlled by a valve 20, and port 23 is connected to exhaust through a pipe 24. The space below the piston 11 is connected by a pipe 27 to a valve 25, whereby it may be connected to the downstream side of the main conduit or to an exhaust pipe 31. A bye-pass controlled by a valve 30 connects the pipes 19 and 27, whereby upstream pressure can be admitted beneath the piston 11 to re-open the main valve. A clamp 32 is fitted about the valve spindle to secure the valve in its open or closed position.
