Abstract
381,217. Fluid-actuated valves. TURNBULL & CO., Ltd., A. and MILN, J. G., St. Mungo Works, Bishopbriggs, near Glasgow. July 2, 1931, No. 19070. [Class 135.] Valves controlled by pilot or relay valves.- A quick closing stop valve actuated by fluid pressure under the control of an auxiliary valve has the main valve 1a connected by a spindle 2 to a piston 1 working in a cylinder arranged in the casing. A leakage path 1c is provided to the space below the piston and ports 4, 5 below and above the piston lead to an auxiliary piston valve 7, provided with a port 9 leading to atmosphere and a port 8 connected by a pipe 10 to the inlet side of the main valve. When it is desired to close the main valve the auxiliary valve is actuated by a lever, rope, solenoid or hydraulic ram to connect the ports 5, 8 and 4, 9 so that live steam is admitted above the piston while the space below the piston is connected to exhaust. The main valve may be closed or its lift regulated by a screwed spindle 14 operated by a hand-wheel 13. The piston auxiliary valve may be replaced by a slide or double beat valve. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 5187/96, 251,161, and 336,867, [all in Class 135, Valves &c.].
