Abstract
203,328. Larnery C. W. Aug. 29, 1922, [Convention date]. Valves controlled by pilot or relay valves.-A valve device for use on large hydraulic mains is actuated by fluid pressure under control of an auxiliary valve adapted to be operated by a hand wheel or by a hydraulic cylinder controlled from a distance and restored to its inoperative position by the movement of the main valve acting through a floating lever. The tubular piston auxiliary valve 8 is arranged to connect ports 3, 6 leading to the opposite sides of the main piston alternately to an exhaust passage 11 so that conduit pressure admitted through a passage 5 and by leakage past the plunger or through a port 7 is permitted to open or close the main valve as the case may be. The spindle of the auxiliary valve has a handwheel 12 and has a screw connection with a rod 13 connected by a link 14 to a floating lever 15 pivoted at 17 to a rod 16 fixed to the main valve and coupled by a link 18 and rod 19 to a piston 20 working in a cylinder 21. Pressure is supplied to both sides of the piston through a pipe 22 and throttling cocks 23 whereby the rate of movement of the valve may be controlled. The lower end of the cylinder is coupled by a pipe 24 to a threeway cock whereby the cylinder may be connected to an exhaust pipe 26 to close the valve, or may be connected through a pipe 27 to a distant point on the main conduit whereby the main valve may be closed automatically in the event of the conduit breaking or may be connected through a pipe 28 to a distant control cock.
