356,856. Engine stop-gear. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. July 4, 1930, No. 20377. Convention date, July 5, 1929. [Class 122 (iv).] A control gear for large steam driven machines comprises several rapid action stop valves connected in parallel, one of which is adapted to close automatically by a spring under the control of liquid pressure controlled by emergency auxiliary gear, while the remaining valves are provided with hydraulic gear controlled by hand whereby they are adapted to be closed gradually in addition to the control by emergency auxiliary gear whereby they are enabled to close rapidly under the action of a spring. The valve 1 is opened and held open agains the action of a spring by liquid pressure supplied through a pipe 13, the opening being regulated by a hand-wheel 50. The valve 2 is loaded by a spring 18 and is opened by liquid pressure acting on a piston 17 under the control of a relay piston valve. The relay valve comprises a pair of pistons 26, 27 connected by a spindle 25 and operates to connect the pressure chamber 21 either to the pressure supply pipes 19 or to the exhaust 24 and spring chamber 22. To operate the valve slowly the control valve 30 is turned to admit pressure from the pipe 13 to the space above the piston 26, when the spring 28 gradually moves the valve to shut off the pressure supply and open the exhaust. To close the valve rapidly the pressure is relieved in the pipe 19 by auxiliary emergency gear.
