Abstract

Valves controlled by pilot or relay valves.-A valve device of the kind described in the parent Specification in which a main valve is actuated by a compressed air motor having a reversing valve operated by supplying air through one of two supply pipes, is provided with a bye-pass valve actuated by a small auxiliary motor supplied with air from the same source. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1 the motor 3 actuating the main valve is supplied with air through the reversing valve 7 and one of the pipes 5, 6 under the control of a pair of interconnected three way cocks 8, 9. The bye-pass valve 2 is opened against the action of a spring 15 by air admitted through a branch 12 on the conduit 6 which conduit is used for closing the main valve. A separate three-way cock may be used for controlling the bye-pass valve and the actuating piston may act through toggle link mechanism. The bye-pass valve may also be actuated by a double, acting piston controlled by a pair of interconnected three-way valves or an additional passage may be provided on the cock 8 for this purpose. Fig. 9 shows a modified form of motor for actuating the bye-pass valve. It comprises a pivoted vane 34 adapted to oscillate through about 270‹ in a segmental chamber 31 and mounted on a shaft 32 keyed to a sleeve 33 provided with an arm 34. An eccentric 35 coupled to the valve has stops 36 about 90‹ apart adapted to be, engaged by the arm 34 to open the valve.
