Abstract

497,901. Interconnected valves. TENNANT, W. J. (Maybach-Motorenbau Ges.) March 1, 1938, No. 6446. [Class 135] A control device for the conduit of a pneumatically-operated change-speed gear, clutch &c. comprises a control member 2, Fig. 1, slidably mounted in a housing 1 provided with a supply conduit 10 and an outlet conduit 11. The member 2 is formed with a collar 4 which is normally pressed against a seat 5 in the housing 1 by a spring 3, and it is provided with a longitudinal bore 6 and transverse bores 7, the bore 6 terminating in a seating face 13 adapted to be covered by a closing body 9 actuated by a rod 8. With the control member in the position shown the conduit 11 is open to atmosphere, but upon actuation of the rod 8 and movement of the body 9 to the left, the body will first abut against the seating face 13 and close the bore 6 of the control member and then move the latter, causing the collar 4 to be lifted off its seat 5 and permitting communication between the pressure or vacuum conduit 10 and the conduit 11 through the bores 7. A device with two outlet conduits 47, 48 controlled by two members 22, 32 and an interposed closing member 29 is shown in Fig. 2, the supply conduit 20 communicating with the conduit 48 through a conduit 44 and chamber 52, and the conduit 47 being open to the atmosphere through the bore 26 of the member 22 and an opening 49 in the housing 21 ; alternatively the conduits 20, 47 are in communication through a conduit 43 and chamber 51, the conduit 48 being open to atmosphere. Control members 2, Fig. 1, may also be used in this modification, with the conduits 47, 48 functioning as supply conduits, and separate delivery conduits being connected to chambers 45, 46 in the housing 21 ; similarly, a control member 22, Fig. 2, may be used in the first construction, the functions of the conduits 10, 11 being reversed.
