Abstract

520,433. Valves. INDIA-RUBBER, GUTTA PERCHA, & TELEGRAPH WORKS CO. Ltd., TARRIS, F. J., and WEBB, D. Oct. 17, 1938, No. 30044. [Class 135] A valve device particularly adapted for use in connection with the remote control of a machine gun has two interconnected lift valves one of which comprises a cylindrical valve member adapted to pass into and distort a resilient seat to provide a sealing lip. The valve casing 10 has a central bore connected by a lateral passage 22 and transverse passages 24 to a pipe 11 leading to a cylinder 12 housing a piston adapted to operate the trigger of a gun 13. On one side of the passage is a passage 27 leading to atmosphere and on the other a lateral passage 21 connected by a transverse passage 23 to a compressed air supply line 14 coupled to storage cylinder 15 or other source of supply. The inlet valve 29 is formed on the end of a ported tubular member 30 housing a loading spring 33 and slidably arranged in a detachable cap 32. The exhaust valve comprises a cylindrical member 39 adapted to co-operate with an apertured flexible seat 36 held in place by a cage 40 and removable cap 38. The valve member is slidably supported by the cage and cap and is formed with a shoulder 41 acted on by a light loading spring acting in the direction. required to open the valve. The valve carries a crosshead 43 coupled by rods slidable through the casing to a similar crosshead 45 coupled by a Bowden-cable 18 to an actuating lever 17. A stop 46 carried by the crosshead 45 limits the opening movement of the exhaust. When the hand lever is operated the valve 39 first passes into the seat 36 to close the exhaust passage and afterwards engages a pin 31 on the inlet valve to move it away from its seat against the action of the spring 33.
