Abstract

722,160. Holding tools. E.M.B. CO., Ltd. Sept. 8, 1953 [Sept. 26, 1952]. No. 24149/52. Class 61. A hand tool of the pliers type in which the jaws are operated by air pressure comprises a hollow cylindrical body a having therein a slidable, spring loaded piston b, a pair of jaws d pivoted to the end of the body, a wedge i extending from the. piston and adapted to impart a closing movement to the jaws, and a hand operable air control valve on the body. As shown air is applied through a flexible pipe to an inlet passage p and through a valve to a passage q leading to the cylinder. The valve includes a spring loaded closure member m made from rubber or the like which cooperates with a seating n in the body. Co-axially with the member m is arranged a hollow spring loaded, slidable stem r which is operable by a short lever t. In closed position of the valve the stem is open to the outer atmosphere by way of one or more radial ports u. Movement inwards of the lever causes the stem r to bear on the closure m and move the latter off its seating n. In a modification the tool is operated by suction.
