419,737. Fluid - actuated valves. MASON, H. L., 103, King Henry's Road, South Hampstead, London. May 18, 1933, No. 14368. [Class 135.] Valves controlled by pilot or relay valves.-A valve device for controlling the distribution of water, of the kind actuated by fluid pressure acting on a piston under the control of an auxiliary valve, has a main closure in the form of a cylindrical plug 6 moved into and out of engagement with the inner cylindrical wall of a packing ring 5 held in position by a cage screwed into the main casing. In the form shown the main valve spindle is secured to a leaky piston 3 and is made hollow to house the spindle 7 of the auxiliary valve 8 seating in the main valve. A member 9 is screwed to the top of the main spindle to provide a stuffing box for the spindle 7 and in co-operation with an easy-clean cover 13 to provide a stop to limit the maximum opening of the main valve. The member 9 is recessed to accommodate a push button 14 on the spindle 7. The auxiliary valve may be arranged as a separate byepass valve. Instead of making the piston leaky a port may be provided in the piston or cylinder which port may be controlled by a set screw. Specification 303,770, [Class 135], is referred to.
