Abstract

415,072. Slow-closing valves. MASON, H. L., 103, King Henry's Road, South Hampstead, London. Feb. 14, 1933, No. 4488. [Class 135.] Relates to a slow-closing tap operated by a quick - pitch thread. A dashpot 14 in the cover 18 is closed by a leaky piston 15 on the valve-stem, fluid being admitted to the dashpot through a passage 9 in the spindle and the passage being closed during the closing movement, for example, by its outlet 13 being masked by a sleeve 17. In the form shown, the passage 9 communicates with the inlet 2 through openings 12 in the valve 6. In a modification, the quick-pitch thread is formed between the outside of the cover and a shield attached to the knob, and the sleeve 17 is self-centring and forms the bottom of the stuffing-box.
