Abstract
587,408. Fluid-actuated valves. ROSS, J. C., and BRITISH ARCA REGULATORS, Ltd.July 12, 1944, No. 13312. [Class 135]- A valve member 2 is closed by the pressure acting on it from the inlet 1<1> and opened by the inlet pressure admitted to a chamber 22 above a piston 6 through an axial passage 5 in the spindle 4. The pressure in the piston chamber is controlled to effect opening or closing of the valve by a leak-off valve (not shown) in a pipe-line 20 leading from the chamber and an auxiliary valve member 27a which closes the axial passage 5 through the spindle under pressure of a spring 15 and is opened by means of a manuallyoperable spindle 11. Thus, to open the main valve 2 the leak-off valve must be closed and the auxiliary valve 27a opened. Closure is effected by opening the leak-off valve, the auxiliary valve being' closed under its spring pressure. A needle 14 in the axial passage 5 restricts the flow through this passage and the piston 6 seats on to a seating 26 when the valve is in the open position. A diaphragm or bellows may be used in place of the piston 6.
