Abstract
859,958. Valves. MULLARD, A. W., and DRALLIM INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 17, 1959 [Jan. 28, 1958], No. 2815/58. Class 135. A flow control or metering valve comprises a body 1 having a valve chamber 2, a non-resilient conical valve seat 4 at one end of the chamber, a valve member 5, 7 located in the chamber and provided with a resilient annular sealing-member 6 which is thin relatively to the length of the valve seat for co-operation therewith, a flexible diaphragm 8 closing the other end of the valve chamber and engaging the valve member, and actuating means such as a thrust-pad 20, ball 18 and screwed spindle 15 engaging the diaphragm to adjust the sealing member 6 relatively to its seat. The thickness " t " of this sealing member may be from about 1/10 to 1/3 of the length " l " of the valve seat. The operating movement of the spindle 15 is limited in one direction by a retaining-ring 21 and in the other direction by co-operating stops 23, 24.
