Abstract

803,585. Valves. HIGH -PRESSURE COMPONENTS, Ltd. March 21, 1956 [April 1, 1955], No. 9571/55. Class 135. A manually operable screw down two-way flow control valve comprises a casing 1, Fig. 1, having a conical valve seat 4 which receives a cup-shaped closure member 5. The closure member 5 is loosely connected to the part spherical end 11 of the actuating spindle 6, e.g. by four balls 14 each of which engages on an annular groove 13 in the end 11 of the spindle and is located in a hole 15 in the wall of the closure member by a collar 16. The closure member 5 is thus freely movable to seat correctly on the seat 4. A sealing gland 7 is compressed into sealing engagement with the spindle 6 by a nut 18 which screws on to a separate extension 8 of the valve casing. When the valve is fully open a washer 21 is gripped between a flange 17 of the casing extension 8 and a flange 22 of the spindle 6 to enable ready replacement of the sealing gland 7.
