Abstract

990,317. Valves. MILLER PRINTING MACHINERY CO. Nov. 8, 1963 [Nov. 30, 1962], No. 44120/63. Heading F2V. A wedge gate closure 5 is rectilinearly displaced by threaded engagement with a stem 10 which is restrained from axial displacement by an enlargement 12 surrounded, within a chamber 9, by a fluid-tight packing 16, the compression whereof is limited by the abutment of a thrust collar 18, integral with packing gland 16, against the bonnet 7. Downward thrust of the enlargement 12 upon opening the valve is taken, through a flat thrust washer 14, by the portion 13 of the bonnet 7 and upward thrust, through washer 20, by abutment portion 18a of thrust collar 18. The stem 10 is rotated by a lever 23 upon a non-circular portion thereof.
