Abstract

983,178. Valves. SHIPHAM & CO. Ltd. Nov. 5, 1963 [May 10, 1963], No. 18509/63. Heading F2V. A valve comprises a clo sure member 24 which co operates with a seat 20, a sealing ring 10 being pro vided in a recess 12 of the closure member or the valve seat. Vents 14 leads from the recess to the downstream side such that as the valve is opened, the sealing ring tends to cling to the housing or closure member and the fluid pressure tends to extrude the sealing ring until the vents are opened, which allow equalization of pressure on opposite sides of the seal to break the seal. The recess is made narrower at its open end than the bottom end of the recess. Specification 983,179 is referred to.
