Abstract
985,805. Valves. SEETRU Ltd. Aug. 15, 1961 [Aug. 15, 1960], No. 28113/60. Heading F2V. A fluid flow control valve comprises a seat 12 which co-operates with a movable valve closure member 8 having a closure surface 11. The closure has a groove which receives a sealing ring 18 whose cross-section is substantially D-shaped, square or rectangular and has peripheral lips 30, 31 engaging the bottom of the groove and extending into recesses in the groove. With the valve closed, the main portion of the sealing ring is urged by fluid pressure against one of the side walls of the groove and one of the lips fills its associated recess, depending on the direction of flow. Apertures 33 may be provided to admit fluid pressure to act on the ring and the base of the groove may be vented. The closure surface and seat may be conical, spherical or cylindrical.
