Abstract

1379675 Valves J B MONTGOMERIE 1 Nov 1972 [9 June 1972] 26989/72 Heading F2V In a gate valve the body 1 is provided with a seat 10 about a side opening 9 midway between the ends of a circular through flow passage 5 which mates with a seat 12 on the closure member 2. The body 1 also has recesses 11 on the opposite sides of the longitudinal axis of the passage 5, the opposed base walls 11A of which recesses are tangential to the passage 5, and are mutually convergent towards the passage. The closure member has a cylindrical portion (15) which fits into the opening 16 and has a U- sectioned web (13), which fits into the recesses, and the side surfaces (13A) of which web wedge between the recess surfaces 11A. The seat 12 may be circular or elliptical, may be in a plane tangential to the passage 5 or above the passage and may be at any angle between the horizontal (Fig. 5, not shown) and the tangent to the passage 5. The body and closure member may be of plastics or have their mating surfaces coated with rubber. The valve is actuated by a screw-spindle 4A and nut 19. The closure member may have a hole leading from the passage 5 to the opening 9 to fluid pressure balance it.
