Abstract

959,476. Valves. A. B. BUCKLEY. June 15, 1962 [June 19, 1961; Dec. 6, 1961], Nos. 22065/61 and 43741/61. Heading F2V. A valve comprises a resilient closure member 6, Fig. 1, which may be hollow or solid, which mounted in a rigid member 7 such that the resilient member 6 protrudes from the member 7 when the valve is open. In closing the valve, the member 6 engages the seat and is compressed until the member 7 engages the seat and the fluid pressure at the inlet acts on the resilient member to increase the sealing effect. In a modification, Fig. 3, the member 6 is formed with a portion extending into the seating member. The member 6 may be screwed to a threaded portion 12 integral with a back-plate 10 and the skirt 13 is formed with a flange 13a engaged by the member 6. In a further modification, the skirt is formed as 7 above and the member 6 is attached by a screw.
