Abstract

941,148. Valves. BELL'S ASBESTOS & ENGINEERING Ltd. Oct. 5, 1962 [Oct. 5, 1961], No. 35873/61. Heading F2V. A non-return valve comprises a housing 1 having an inlet 12, an outlet 13 and a valve seat 5 mounted in an aperture 4 of a portion 3. A valve closure member 8 is guided by a shank 7 in a recess 6 of a cover 2 and a pressure plate 11 is connected by a rod 10 to the valve member such that when the valve is open and return flow takes place, as indicated by arrows 14, the return flow impinges on the pressure plate to assist the closing action of the valve. The plate may be flat, as shown, or dished with its concave side facing the valve member 8. Apertures 9 may be provided to relieve trapped fluid in the recess. In a modification, the cover 2 carries a screwed spindle to provide additional manual control of the valve. In a further modification, the plate is located in the aperture in the valve open position, the aperture being of larger area to allow free flow.
