950,618. Valves. ALUMASAC Ltd., E. C. LEWIS, and R. P. PEAKE. March 28, 1961 [Sept. 7, 1960], No. 30766/60. Heading F2V. A non-return valve comprises a body 1 having an orifice 12 disposed in a face 9 formed on a flange 6 in which one or more openings 14 are provided, a diaphragm being mounted across the face so as to either seat against the latter under fluid pressure in one direction for closing the orifice or lift therefrom for permitting fluid flow to take place in the opposite direction from the orifice for passage between the diaphragm and the face to escape via the openings. The diaphragm 7, which may be of metal, rubber or synthetic plastic material, is provided with a bead 10 for engagement with the flange. A reinforcement 15 may be provided on the diaphragm. In a modification, the opening 14 may be slotted outwardly.
