Abstract
727,808. Valves. CRANE CO. May 9, 1952, No. 11849/52. Class 135. A valve in which the closure member 7, Fig. 1, seating 5, and stem 10 are inclined to the direction of flow through the valve has a sealing diaphragm 14 clamped at its periphery between the valve housing 1 and a bonnet 19 and formed with upper and lower annular flanges 15 surrounding a central opening where it is clamped to the closure member. The stem operates in a threaded bush 24 in the bonnet and has an enlarged head which is retained in a recess 9 in the closure member by a screwed sleeve 12 having a dished part 17 which overlies the diaphragm and has diametrically opposite projections (not shown) in engagement with slots in the bonnet to prevent rotation. In a modification, the stem is located axially by a collar rotatable in a recess in the bonnet and has a threaded connection with the sleeve. In a further modification, the stem 36, Fig. 5, with a head 46, is retained by a recess at the foot of an externally-threaded sleeve 42 on which the closure member 45 and a clamping nut 44 are screwed.
