Abstract
389,333. Domestic stop-valves. DEHN, F. B., 103, Kingsway, London.- (Bell Co., Inc., D. ; 1555, Fillmore Avenue, Buffalo, New York, U.S.A.) June 21, 1932, No. 17541. [Class 135.] Lift valves ; leakage, preventing.-In a lift stop-valve for domestic use having detachable upper and lower head portions, such as 23, 25, with an interposed ball bearing 26, the head parts are secured together by a central screw stud 31 having a shoulder which clamps the upper head part 23 to the spindle 17. This arrangement provides for relative rotation of the lower part so that when the washer 27 therein contacts the valve seating, in closing, it does not rotate in contact with the seating. The screw spindle 17 operates in a removable nut 14 provided with a feather 16 engaging a groove in the casing. Alternatively, the spindle may screw directly into threads formed in the casing body. The rubber &c. spindle packing 21 rests on a fibre washer 35 and a metal washer 22 and is covered by a soft metal thimble 34 and compressed by a screw-on cover 20. The central opening of the thimble 34 can be small enough for the smallest spindle used but is adaptable for the largest spindle size since the spindle can be readily forced through the opening of the soft metal.
